Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power vs Schick Quattro Power

In this video, I’m testing out the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power vs Schick Quattro Power from 2005. I’ll see how well these razors can shave a stubble beard and how smooth of a shave I can get.

Why Compare

I put the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power up against the Schick Quattro Power to see how these two beard shaving razors compare head-to-head and to see if 10+ years of new technology makes any difference in the quality and smoothness of the shave. Since both shaving units are power, a beard shaving comparison review was necessary.

Features

While the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power touts its 5 bladed razor, flexball swivel head, precision trimmer and lubrication before and after the blades, the Schick Quattro Power stands its ground with just 4 blades.

The Shave

To start, I shave one side of my beard with the Schick Quattro Power, then move to the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power on the other. As I shave, I quickly notice hair build up in the square shaped ridges of Schick Quattro Power blades. This requires the need for constant rinsing and becomes a nuisance.

In comparison, the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power also requires the need to rinse the razor blades several times; however, the blades are spaced more efficiently to allow for easy clean off of the beard hair from the razor.

Both the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power and the Schick Quattro Power created near identical feelings of smoothness on the face. However, the advantage with the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power was seen in the ease of beard hair rinse and longer time between clogs.

The precision trimmer of the Proshield Power was also a handy feature. For those needing to shave the sideburns or shave tight sections along their beard, this one blade works best instead of five.

After shaving down, I demonstrate shaving upwards against the grain of the beard hairs to achieve a super smooth feel on the cheeks. For those new to shaving, shaving upwards against the hairs of your beard can feel uncomfortable and intimidating. It may feel as if the razor grabs at the beard hair on your face and is going to cut into your skin.

Just remember, shaving down against the beard first is a good place to start. Once you are comfortable shaving with a razor, try shaving your beard in the upward direction.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power is a nice razor. As with most Gillette shaving products competing for an edge, this razor is no different. It’s flexball technology and five bladed razors are great for marketing the product, but the Schick Quattro Power lacked both and still put up an even match.

That said, it’s only approx $15 on Amazon for the Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power and Gillette Fusion Proglide Sensitive Skin Alpine Gel.

I highly recommend you pick up this razor and shaving cream for a test to see what you think.  Especially after using only a tiny bit of the Gillette Fusion Proglide Sensitive Skin Alpine Gel and seeing how many more shaves I am going to get out of the can.

For it’s price, you cannot pass up Gillette Fusion 5 Proshield Power. It will get you a great shave and the Gillette Fusion Alpine Gel will leave your skin feeling refreshed.

Good Luck!
